There is a part of you that already knows the way forward.
Together we’ll reconnect with it.
Psychotherapy New York
You’ve done what you can on your own. Now you’re ready not to go it alone.
It’s a vulnerable step—especially when you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in your own head. And trying to find the right therapist can feel like just one more impossible task.
Maybe you’re not just looking for support—but for someone who truly sees you. Someone who understands what it’s like to live with anxiety, trauma, or self-doubt that won’t let go. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the right place.
Hi, I’m Sari Kutch
I offer psychotherapy in New York for people who are ready to move beyond coping and toward meaningful, lasting change. If you’ve been carrying pain for a long time—or feel like no one really gets what’s going on inside—whatever’s there, it’s not too much. And you don’t have to hold it alone anymore.
Together, we’ll explore how to reconnect with your inner strength, heal old wounds, and move toward the life you know is possible.
A Therapy That Meets You Where You Are
Therapy with me is about more than symptom relief or getting through the day—it’s about building something lasting within yourself.Whether you're dealing with anxiety, stress, or something harder to name, the work is about connecting to your Self—the calm, clear, compassionate center of you that’s still there beneath the noise.
As that connection grows, so does your access to the inner clarity to understand what’s going on, the courage to face it, and the compassion to meet it without judgment.
This is the heart of the work—and whether it’s your first time in therapy or you’ve done years of inner work, we’ll create a space where growth feels possible and support feels real.
An Integrative, Trauma-Informed Approach
There’s no one-size-fits-all path to healing. That’s why I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches—so we can shape a process that fits you, not the other way around.
Some of the methods I use include:
Internal Family Systems (IFS) – Unburden and understand the parts of you that carry pain or try to protect you
EMDR & FLASH – Gently release the emotional weight of trauma without having to relive it
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – Strengthen connection and communication in your relationships
Polyvagal-Informed Therapy – Work with your nervous system to build safety, resilience, and regulation
When I use the word trauma, I’m not referring to a diagnosis or a label—I don’t believe in reducing people to categories. Trauma, as I see it, includes both the big and the subtle experiences that shape how we relate to ourselves and the world: feeling unseen, dismissed, unsafe, disconnected, or overwhelmed. These experiences live in our bodies, our nervous systems, and our relationships—whether we name them or not.
A trauma-informed approach means honoring those impacts with care, curiosity, and respect. It means recognizing that what may look like “stuckness” or “overreaction” is often a wise response to pain. My integrative work is about helping you make sense of what you’ve carried, so you can reconnect with yourself and begin to move forward—not from fixing, but from understanding and compassion.
Your healing journey will be your own. We’ll co-create a process that supports relief in the present and lays the groundwork for meaningful, lasting change.
My Experience as a Psychotherapist in New York
You won’t be starting from scratch here. For over 30 years, I’ve been in the room with people navigating some of the most complex, painful, and meaningful parts of being human. My background includes a Master’s in Social Work and advanced training in trauma, family systems, addiction, nervous system regulation, and relational healing—but what truly matters is how that translates into real, tangible support for you.
I didn’t just learn a model of therapy—I helped create one. For 15 years, I led the Center for Substance Use and the Family at the Ackerman Institute alongside Dr. Peter Steinglass, a leading figure in the field of family therapy and addiction. Together, we developed a relational approach that redefined how substance use is understood in families—moving beyond blame and rigid models, and toward something more collaborative, compassionate, and real.
Since then, I’ve continued to evolve and expand that work, integrating newer modalities and refining the approach through decades of direct experience. I also teach and supervise other therapists—not just to pass along techniques, but to share a way of working that’s been shaped by years of listening closely to what actually helps people heal.
When we work together, you’re not just getting a trained therapist—you’re working with someone who helped shape the very model others are now learning.
Why I Offer Psychotherapy in New York
Because healing is possible—even when it doesn’t feel that way.
Because I believe in helping people reconnect with their true self.
And because when one person heals, that healing ripples outward—into families, relationships, and communities.
This path means everything to me. It’s not just what I do—it’s my purpose.
Being trusted to walk beside people as they reclaim their lives is a responsibility I hold with deep care.
